Brown-Banded Cockroaches Identification

What are brown-banded cockroaches?

Brown-banded cockroaches are a small roach species that regularly find their way into our West Palm Beach structures. Unlike most other species of cockroaches, they do not have high moisture needs and typically inhabit spaces that are dry and free of excess water.

In general, cockroaches have flat oval bodies, long antennae, and six legs. Brown-banded cockroaches are yellowish-brown to dark brown and adults have two light brown bands that run across their wings.

Identifying the exact species of cockroach that has invaded your property can be tricky. If you ever spot what you think is a cockroach in your home, immediately reach out to our professionals to identify them and perform the appropriate treatment to eradicate them.

Why do I have a problem with brown-banded cockroaches?

Our homes, especially newly built ones, often provide the dry environment that brown-banded cockroaches prefer. These pests can live outdoors but prefer an indoor life. They most frequently move from place to place by hitchhiking. Brown-banded cockroaches will crawl into things like boxes, food containers, furniture, electronics, and appliances and move wherever we take them.

Where do brown-banded cockroaches hide?

Since brown-banded cockroaches don’t have high moisture needs, they prefer to hang out in dry, warm areas that provide them with easy access to food. Cabinets, pantries, closets, and spaces behind baseboards and wood trim are places brown-banded cockroaches routinely gather. Brown-banded cockroaches are nocturnal and hide during the day, emerging at night to travel around your home to forage for food.

Are brown-banded cockroaches dangerous?

Like other cockroach species, brown-banded cockroaches are dangerous pests that should not live near people. Cockroaches are scavengers. They feed on almost anything and find themselves in less than sanitary places more often than not. As they travel and feed, they come into contact with bacteria, human pathogens, and parasites that they contaminate surfaces with, and which can make us sick.

When cockroaches live in our homes, they produce a lot of excrement and shed their skins as they grow. Both their shed skins and waste create a lot of allergens that cause respiratory problems in people.

Another danger of a cockroach infestation is that their presence in your home is stressful and often causes a lack of sleep. It is hard for anyone to feel safe and comfortable anywhere there are cockroaches.
